The Library Census

A statewide student research project

A book census of Texas school libraries

The Library Census is a student-run research project building one open, statewide picture of what Texas public school libraries hold — which titles are most widely held, how collections have aged, and how any one library compares with its peers.

For students

Join the research team.

We build the dataset with a small, hand-picked student team. On the team you’ll:

  • Look up what a school library holds, from its public catalog
  • Turn each library’s list into clean, comparable data
  • Help build one open, statewide picture — studied purely as data

Apply below — if it’s a good fit, we’ll email you an invite to join. Open to Texas high schoolers.

For librarians

Share your catalog.

If you’re a school or district librarian, send us your library’s catalog export — it goes straight to our secure storage. A spreadsheet or CSV is perfect; large files are fine.
